Coal

Coal usage per year

There are two options for coal. If you can estimate your coal use
per year go straight to the second table. If you prefer to estimate
per week, use the seasonal calculator, below.

To fill in the seasonal calculator, take each season in turn. Use
the column for the size of bag you buy, and enter the number of bags
you buy per week for that season.

Wood

Firewood usage

Wood is a challenge to estimate because delivery sizes vary and
weights change as the wood seasons. However I estimate that a
carrying basket of wood contains 10kg and a typical fire or stove
burns around 7kg in five-hours. The table below shows the year in
four seasons, and then asks how many mornings, afternoons and evenings
per week you light your fire(s) in each season. Most people only
light one fire at a time, but if your property routinely has two or
more fires running simultaneously, enter the number of fires.

Transport

Owned Car(s)

Guidelines: The average mileage in the UK is 10,000 miles per year,
and commuting 20 miles to and from work every day is 10,000 miles per
year. You can make a rough guess based on these.
